Jaden Leigh 323-651-1054 info@fairfaxdistrict.com http://www.fairfaxdistrict.com Tell us a little about your product or service. The Fairfax District. A community located in Los Angeles filled with artists. www.fairfaxdistrict.com and fairfax district inc. have created a central hub as a voice for this community. Known as the new Soho of L.A. you can find underground painters, musicians, designers and many more. Business around the area advertise on the web which makes it free for all artists. Basically the business in the community, supports all the artists helping them to get their amazing work out into the world. I.E. an Interior designer will go on and browse these talents then an artists contact info is located on the site and they can get in touch with the artists and deal from there. And so on and so on. How did you start your company? I bought the name of the website sum five years ago. I knew something was there, but did not know what. Others within the District were getting permits to throw a block party. I used that as a date to launch the website. Yeah right. As i started that process one thing led to another and another. This promotions project has blossomed into a localized crew with talent that extends worldwide. I have given it time to come together in the right way. I believe most people don't do that. They force things to start making dollars. That will not last overtime. Figure out exactly what it will be. Think of everything. Let it grow on its own. That it has done, and so much more. Its really amazing. The Fairfax District... What or who inspired you to go into business for yourself? All the people around me. Some of these people just blow your mind. You walk into a garage and see the most amazing piece of abstract art being created on a paint dripped wall. That is an artists truth. Not selling it. Creating it. That is honest and very personal for many artists. I really believe in keeping that real. BUT, I believe you should be able to make money doing what you love, hence the Fairfax District Inc. and www.fairfaxdistrict.com do just the trick. What were some of the startup hurdles you overcame? Well, many. To do something you know nothing about is very scary. You take baby steps. I randomly found LegalZoom on the internet (yes a plug but its true) they made it so easy to take the next step in getting the name registered and ready for business. Bringing everyone together has been very hard. Artists are not the most accountable people in the world. Trust me I know. When I run into someone, I try and call them as soon as I get to my computer. The time is now. Things happen so fast, you don't really have time to sit around and wonder what your business could do. The hardest part was figuring out if this business would make any money or not. That has been sort of last on the list. That ended up being the smartest thing I have ever done. "Set up a business without the idea of making money". This is set up to do a great many things with a great community and a great group of artists. This is the most important thing. That was my goal. In saying that, the little left and rights along the path of a new business seem so clear. Integrity. To localize. Makes things smaller. This business does not need to advertise. When you do a great thing people will find you. How has LegalZoom helped you in starting up your business? As I previously stated, it got me over the "well how do you do that" hump. My business is not about legal paper work and filings and such. Thankfully LegalZoom can help me keep it that way. Using LegalZoom has allowed me to stay focused on the important ideas and creative steps involved in a new company. They have taken care of all legal matters so far, and at a cost of almost nothing to me, that has been a huge factor in bringing this amazing community together. Description The Fairfax District. A community exists only within those who create it. A locality inspired by a common identity. The pursuance of a life, in which the small things do not flee to imposing notions of overwhelming possibility, and solitary achievement. Hasidic families template the streets with a second century devotion. An overabundance of unique one of a kind shops and markets. Residents of this community “walk” from place to place. A BBQ with a guest list of anybody. A free lesson in Pro-tools. A new roommate. A free piano. Neighbors that say hello. Friends that “stop by”. It has been regarded as the new “SoHo” of L.A. It is more, for being less. This modest little village has many secrets. Some which are known, but most which are not. This locale is harboring some of the most talented and artistically devoted individuals on the West coast. Virtue, commitment and diligence override money and fame. Meals shared, with live music and paint parties. Brandy wine and fire breathing. A band of Gypsies, unafraid of growth and success. Welcome to The Fairfax District. Dis*trict; an area of a country or city, one regarded as a distinct unit because of a particular characteristic. The prodigious city of Los Angeles. The concept of home seems lost, exiting a bus or standing in your first line. One does exist. Its arms rest between Fairfax Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. It wears a Melrose Hat and 3rd street knickers. A collection of people, of all shapes and sizes. Musicians, Painters, Directors, Writers, Singers, Dancers, Designers...Artists. A family. People with solidarity. Unbridled creation of inner imagination. Connections are made in The Fairfax District that reach World Wide. This website will give Private buyers, Interior designers, Producers, Labels, etc, access inside The District. “Paint” is honored to have some brilliant works of art for sale or as examples of each artists work. All of which are hard to get. “Sing” hosts some very talented musicians, and lets you know how to get YOUR hands on the tunes you dig. This local’s spot will keep everyone up to date on great things to do, and amazing places to eat, shop, relax and unwind. Keep in the know with “Play”. Current events happening in the District, such as plays and art shows, music gigs, or silent movies. “Garb” will offer cool places to get gear like hand made clothes, sexy lingerie, and REAL second hand stores. New hip, yet down to earth business, arrives in the area everyday. For delicious food, “Grub” will not be reviews, but local spots, described and written about in our own words, to help newcomers (or neighborhood guests) explore their new home, as well as invite neighborhood veterans to new and exciting places. The Fairfax District has a firm belief in mind body and spirit, “Body” will help elevate resources in The District, such as Teashops and Yoga. “Snap” educes the world of photography. Friends and family coming to town, send them to “Sleep” with local hotels and such. Enjoy and keep in touch, Jaden Leigh. (Architect of the FairfaxDistrict.com) |
