Tell us a little about your product or service.
The first web service is MiniSphere (http://www.minisphere.com). MiniSphere is a web portal that is formatted for mobile devices and contains only the best links to sites that are also formatted for the mobile. What makes MiniSphere unique are three key elements: First, the sites that are displayed on the homepage can be changed to suit each individual user's needs or priorities. Second, sites are grouped in multiple categories so that the site you are looking for will intuitively be where you are looking for it. And lastly, MiniSphere will be the principle entry point for most future Mobicosm releases; integrating various technologies like RSS Feeds or remote access to information stored on the user's home or work computer.
How did you start your company?
After reading an article on WiMax nearly 5 years ago, I had a vision of where computing was going to go... mobile. And realizing that the current devices at that time were limited in usability and resources, I saw a niche to fill where I could hopefully beat the market to fulfillment of a need. I spent a large portion of time planning. The company started out as a software company, but the trend toward SOA and the proliferation of hosted applications changed my focus. I had to shift to meet the demands of the market, which meant stripping down the business plan and starting over. After more planning and a name change, The Mobicosm was created.

What or who inspired you to go into business for yourself?It has always been my career goal. I possess the work hard/play hard mentality, so it has always been my dream to build a company up from idea to market, while working the long hours and overcoming obstacles, so that I could enjoy the freedoms it would bring once successful.
What were some of the startup hurdles you overcame?
Other than the usual two, time and money, the original name of my company (which I won't divulge) had once been used before in the late 90's. and the previous owner of that name was kind enough to ask me to cease and desist. While on the surface that could've been a major blow, it ended up being the biggest blessing. It happened right at that time I was entertaining the switch from software to web services, and having the word "software" in my company name was too limiting for the organizational scope. I then came up with Mobicosm and love it. Mobi = mobile, and cosm is a word part with the root meaning, "universe". Mobile Universe. Perfect. On top of the name change, the other big obstacle has been starting the business while working a full time job as a Web Developer/Business Analyst while also putting my wife through school. It's tough to strike a balance between family, career, and fulfilling a dream when there is a finite amount of time in a day.
How has LegalZoom helped you in starting up your business?
LegalZoom has made the task of incorporating very simple. I waited to incorporate and operated as a privately owned business for as long as possible, but at some point you have to consider protecting your own personal assets and those of your family. It's a sue-happy world. LegalZoom made the decision easy. Any time you can delegate something as time consuming as paperwork, filing, and communicating with the government, while you're trying to get a business up and running, is money well spent.
