My ex's mom sued me for breech of verbal contract for $150. She had to pay an additional $200+ to file the claim, serve the court papers, and notarize documents for evidence. She had tons of documents of emails and testimony and copies of check stubs. But after waiting 5 months to get me into court, her entire case was dismissed in 20 minutes. She ended up not getting her $150 and was forced to eat the cost of the additional $200. She lost because she admitted to the judge that we never had an actual verbal agreement, it was always just "assumed". The lesson there is that you should know the law before filing a suit. She wasted a lot of her own time and money just to be sorely dissappointed in court. You shouldn't sue because you think you are "right". You should sue because you think you'll win.
