My parents are legal residents and are waiting a few more years in order to take the citizenship test. I came here on a tourist visa but I have been overstaying the time I was allowed for a long time!! They hope that once they become citizens they will be able to make me a legal resident, they have already talked to an immigration lawyer about it and they seem pretty sure it can be done. My biggest concern is that about 5yrs ago I got married to another illegal alien, about a year after we got married I went to jail for domestic violence. I took and completed a rehabilitation class that was ordered by the judge and did not violate my probation in any way. Right now we are thinking about getting a divorce and I wonder if having gone to jail for domestic violence can affect my chances of becoming a legal resident and joinin the Marines.
