As a former police officer I would suggest that your advice is not really correct. I hate to say this but we have some quite dishonest officers who use "public safety" as an excuse to create arrests. Unless you have witnesses and a video camera, do not allow the police to "just look around", that's in the same line of B.S. as "fits the description.
