In NC it does not matter if a person has a power of attorney or not....it seems that the estate office can do whatever they want to do...I was power of attorney for my dear aunt who died and I did exactly what she wanted me to do...and my aunt sister decided she should have gotten everything. So she filed a complaint and was allowed to buy the property left by my aunt, who wanted 2 of her great niece and nephew to have...which was done before she died.
In the end the sister and her husband bought the place and the little bit of money after all of the attorneys' fees was divided among the heirs.
