Persistent Vegetative State

A wakeful unconscious state that lasts longer than a few weeks is referred to as a persistent vegetative state. This is typically characterized by the absence of any adaptive response to the external environment and the absence of any evidence of a functioning mind which is either receiving or projecting information.
