Victor Willis of the Village People recently attempted to terminate copyright grants on 32 of the popular music group’s songs, including its smash hit, “Y.M.C.A.”

In the lawsuit, the courts will have to decide whether or not copyright protections on a song created by several co-authors or co-writers can be terminated by one of them, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

MGA Entertainment, maker of the popular line of Bratz dolls, recently escaped unscathed from a copyright infringement lawsuit.

The lawsuit was filed by Bernard Belair, a photographer whose advertisements for Steve Madden, featuring large-headed, small-bodied characters, first appeared in August 1999.

Washington-based sports equipment company Brooks recently settled a copyright infringement suit against Paul’s Warehouse, an Australian retailer.

Brooks suspected Paul’s was producing counterfeit products in early 2011. Investigating the matter, Brooks found that Paul’s had been importing and selling counterfeit athletic shoes.

Citing copyright infringement, Universal Music Group, one of America’s “big four” record companies, recently removed a music video from YouTube that had been uploaded by MegaUpload.

MegaUpload, whose downloading and uploading services are free, believes Universal has abused America’s Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and is now taking legal action against Universal.

Croatian journalist James J. Braddock recently filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Angelina Jolie, alleging she based a screenplay on his 2007 novel, “The Soul Shattering.”

The film, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” will be Jolie’s writing and directorial debut, and is slated for a December 23 release.
