Recently revealed details of the 2009 divorce settlement between World Wrestling Federation icon and reality TV star Hulk Hogan and his wife of 26 years, Linda Bollea, demonstrate how valuable prenuptial agreements can be.
The confidential settlement came to light after the document was attached to a legal motion recently filed by Hogan, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
According to the newspaper, Bollea walked away with $7.44 million of the couple's $10.41 million fortune at the time of the divorce. The source also reported she retained possession of a Mercedes-Benz, a Cadillac SUV, a Corvette, a Rolls-Royce and a number of off-road vehicles. She sold a Clearwater, Florida, beach house and kept the $1.65 million from the sale under the terms of a $3 million property settlement, the remainder of which will be paid out from the sale of the couple's other Florida home, currently on the market for $8.87 million.
Under the settlement terms, Hogan retained about $3 million in assets and keeps all the money he earns from personal appearances and from the sale of his 2009 book, "My Life Outside the Ring," the Times reported.
While not all couples have the substantial assets of Hogan and Bollea, prenuptial agreements can help smooth the difficult process of divorce regardless of how much money is at stake.
