The father of actress-signer Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, has filed for a divorce from his wife of 17 years, Tish.
In a recent statement to People Magazine, the couple said "as you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," adding that they are currently working through "personal matters" and that they appreciate the thoughts of fans.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ.com, irreconcilable differences were cited as the reason for the divorce, which was filed in Tennessee.
Billy Ray Cyrus, the singer of the hit song "Achy Breaky Heart," is seeking shared custody of his three minor children, 17-year-old Miley, 16-year-old Braison and 10-year-old Noah. Cyrus also adopted two children from Tish's previous marriage, but they are now over 18 years old.
A source told E! News that the breakup was a "long time coming" and that there was no third-party reason for the split. The divorce will be Bill Ray Cyrus' second, after he split with his first wife, Cindy Smith, in 1991.
