Actor and director Mel Gibson and his ex-girlfriend, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva, recently reached a settlement in a contentious break-up battle.
Under terms of the settlement, the Braveheart star will pay Grigorieva $750,000 and split custody of their 2-year-old daughter. Gibson will also maintain Grigorieva in a multimillion dollar home. The property will be sold and the proceeds given to their daughter when she turns 18.
Grigorieva's attorney, Daniel Horowitz, told The Associated Press the settlement is actually worth about $5 million, considering the cost of maintaining his client's residence.
The agreement bars Gibson and Grigorieva from communicating publicly about their relationship. The relationship came to a very public end in January, 2010, when the celebrity news website RadarOnline.com released audio tapes of a man, apparently Gibson, berating Grigorieva with obscenities and referring to past instances of physical assault.
Gibson's divorce from his wife of 28 years, Robyn, is soon to be finalized. Gibson filed for divorce from Robyn months before Grigorieva gave birth to their daughter. He and Robyn reportedly do not have a prenuptial agreement, which could mean he will be paying his ex-wife a substantial percentage of his personal fortune. People magazine surmised it could be the most expensive divorce in Hollywood history.
