American Idol winner Ruben Studdard filed to divorce his wife.

2003 American Idol champ Ruben Studdard has filed to divorce his wife of three years, Surata Zuri McCants, citing irreconcilable differences.

While TMZ broke the story on November 16, RumorFix subsequently reported it had obtained legal documents showing the divorce had been filed October 12 and stating the couple had been living apart for about a year.

RumorFix also reported McCant is seeking to have the couple's prenuptial agreement voided, saying she was misinformed at the time about the document's "impact" and had been misled as to the extent of Studdard's assets. She is seeking more than the $500 a month Studdard is currently furnishing her, as well as sole occupancy of their house and ownership of a BMW Studdard gave her as a Christmas gift, according to the website.

The divorce document filed with the court by Studdard and published by RumorFix asks that the court enforce the existing prenuptial agreement.

Ruben met McCants while autographing records at a supermarket, and the couple wed in Birmingham, Alabama, in June 2008, in a ceremony featuring 20 groomsmen, according to the Daily Mail.
