Google recently lost a Texas lawsuit claiming that its Linux operating system infringes upon a privately held patent, reports the Financial Times.

According to the news provider, the ruling is thought to be the first patent infringement decision against the Linux kernel, which is used in all versions of the operating system.

In the decision, a federal jury awarded Bedrock Computer Technologies $5 million from Google, which said that it planned to fight the ruling, according to the news source.
