Our e-"mewsletter" features fun, informative and heart-warming articles about all kinds of animals, letters and photos sent in by readers, art projects for children and columns "penned" by our animal friends. Our Web site will have similar, but greatly extended content.
How did you start your company?
I was sitting in front of my computer screen scouring Web sites for freelance work one day when the purring cat on my lap inspired me to create my own company writing about something I love and enjoy and that would be fun for readers as well as benefit animals.
"Our Place to Paws" was born one day when a seasoned journalist and communications professional was sitting at her computer trying to complete applications and send in samples for freelance work, and realized that she would never get her work done if she didn't remove the distracting, purring cat from her lap...
What or who inspired you to go into business for yourself?My father started a business in his early 60s and was able to retire with help from the income the business generated. I am a creative person who was ready to break out on her own and run her own show, inspired by my father and also friends and family who have a high quality of life working for themselves.
What were some of the startup hurdles you overcame?
I am still overcoming them! I have to work hard to turn "Our Place to Paws" into an income-generating business through extensive outreach to sponsors and advertisers, while maintaining its main purpose of being fun for the writers and readers, creating entertainment and benefiting animals.
How has LegalZoom helped you in starting up your business?
LegalZoom helped me take the leap by making it so easy to incorporate and trademark my name without having to find and hire a lawyer and deal with lengthy delays and high legal expenses. I am starting this business with a dollar in my pocket, a dream and a lot of determination, and the knowledge that if it all works out, I can entertain people and help animals, too. It would have been so much harder without LegalZoom!

"Our Place to Paws" was born one day when a seasoned journalist and communications professional was sitting at her computer trying to complete applications and send in samples for freelance work, and realized that she would never get her work done if she didn't remove the distracting, purring cat from her lap. Upon realizing that she was completely -- and perhaps pathologically -- unable to bring herself to disturb the cat, Faye Rapoport DesPres started composing her first issue of the new e-"mewsletter" titled "Our Place to Paws." Written by and for animal lovers, the e-"mewsletter," includes original content including some articles "penned" by animal columnists, links to fun and heartwarming stories and videos about animals of all kinds. As the subscription rate grows, Our Place to Paws hopes to attract sponsorships and advertising from animal and pet-related product companies. A Web site is currently in the works that will feature unique, fun and informative content about animals for children and adults. What makes us different is our one-of-a-kind writing, often attributed to our animals, and our unabashed love for all animal friends. Our earning potential is in the area of promoting sponsored products that benefit pets and other animals, and eventually producing and sell unique toys and products based on our own content and characters. Our hope is to donate a portion of sales to animal rescue organizations.
