Tell us a little about your product or service.
Your Breast Friends are ring-shaped, fabric covered hot/cold packs designed especially for the breast. Intended use is to aid in the relief of pain or discomfort associated with lactation, breast surgery, PMS and breastfeeding. An additional use is to expedite pumping and increase the amount of breastmilk obtained per session.
How did you start your company?
We started our company with LOTS of research! Considering that we do not have any formal business education, we have had to learn the ropes from the ground up. From agonizing over development of a prototype to planning our marketing strategies, the internet has afforded us unlimited learning opportunity. Little by little, we learned the steps required and in which order we needed to do them. Legal Zoom made the actual beginning of our Company simple and affordable by assisting with both the formation of our LLC and the provisional patent for our product.

What or who inspired you to go into business for yourself?I shared my idea with a co-worker of mine, who is also a Certified Nurse Midwife, and she thought it was a fabulous idea. She, herself, has designed several products. Another friend of mine has his own successful ISP site and has grown from 3 employees to 175 employees in 3 years. He gave me my first business "consultation" and told me I could do it. So, with their encouragement and the endless support of my best friend of 15 years, I embarked on the adventure of becoming an inventor and opening my own business.
What were some of the startup hurdles you overcame?
One of the most difficult things we have had to learn is about International Trade. Paying for things overseas is not as easy as sliding your card. Also, planning for the unexpected has become the expected. With each new step we completed, two more required steps would present themselves, of course requiring more capital. I would recommend to anyone starting a small business to leave lots of room in the budget for incidentals.

Your Breast Friends is not only our company, it's our product. Our mission is to provide women with a modern, convenient and effective way to relieve breast pain and discomfort. In addition, we believe this product will make it easier and more practical for women to breastfeed, even if they have multiples or have to return to work. Your Breast Friends were designed by a Registered Nurse with 13 years in Maternal/Child nursing.
