Hi, I’m Cortland. I strive to give each client I work with my undivided personal attention—all with a friendly attitude. My practice primarily focuses on complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, products liability, insurance coverage, employment, and political law matters. I also represent clients in nationwide alcohol beverage control licensing and regulatory matters.
During my eighteen years of practicing law, I have gained extensive experience representing and advising Fortune 500 companies in multimillion-dollar lawsuits in state and federal courts across the country. I am skilled in all aspects of the pretrial and trial stages of litigation, and have represented various foreign corporations, including companies in Japan, Germany, Canada, and Asia. In this capacity, I have worked with counsel around the globe.
I am proud of my work as an adjunct professor at the University of Richmond School of Law, where I taught first-year students for almost eight years. This experience was personally gratifying, as I was able to help shape the minds of young, eager, aspiring lawyers.
As an attorney and a former law professor, I have been able to hone my ability to explain complicated legal issues in a manner that is clear, concise, and easy to understand. Indeed, communication—whether it is communication with a client, another attorney, or the court—is critical to any lawyer’s success.
I love to help others.
When I am not practicing law, I enjoy reading and learning about history, as well as traveling with my family. I have been fortunate to visit many different countries and continents.
