Copyright Glossary

A work is "created" when it is fixed in a tangible medium for the first time. Where a work has been prepared over a period of time, the part of the work existing in fixed form on a particular date constitutes the created work on that date. Although copyright exists the moment a work is created, and continues to cover every edit and addition an author makes, the work as to which copyright is registered is fixed in the form submitted to the US Copyright Office with your application.
