Last Will Glossary

The person nominated in your last will and appointed by the court to manage your estate, deal with the probate court, pay your outstanding debts, collect your assets, and distribute your estate according to the provisions in your last will. This person, in essence, becomes your personal representative.

If there is no last will, the court will appoint a person to administer the estate after a hearing to determine which person is entitled to serve under state law.
