Last Will Glossary

self-proving affidavit

A form added to a last will in which the person making the last will and his or her witnesses swear under oath that they have signed and witnessed the last will. Usually, a notary public will oversee the swearing and signing. This document eliminates the need to locate the witnesses upon the testator's death to testify about the signing of the will.
