My sister and her "husband" lived in Colorado as man and wife for over 13 years. They just moved to Wisconsin last April - 2012. They have always filed their taxes as Married Filing Jointly. Can they still file married or do they have to file as single? The federal IRS knows them as married while Wisconsin doesn't know them at all. Colorado knows them as married and they will have to file in all 3 places.
