Tell us a little about your product or service.
Breast MRI had been primarily experimental over the past few years, but is currently becoming mainstream all across the nation. It is a superior diagnostic tool for the detection of breast cancer over all other modalities. The Aurora system is the only FDA-approved MRI machine dedicated solely for breast imaging. While others are performing breast MRI on their whole-body machines with aftermarket coils, our system is taylored specifically for the breast. It's superior comfort, image quality and software applications are unmatched in the industry. We are proud to be the first in California to offer this new technology to the community and instantly be a major player in the women's healthcare field.
How did you start your company?
I put together a business plan, approached the UCI medical center with a proposal to bring this technology to their campus and they liked the idea. From there, it was just a matter of ironing out all the details.

What or who inspired you to go into business for yourself?I've always been interested in business. As a physician, I saw that there was a need to provide better care for patients through technological advances. When the opportunity arose for me to purchase this breast MRI unit and help in the fight against breast cancer, I jumped at the chance. The patients I have been able to treat in the past have truly inspired me to try to do more.
What were some of the startup hurdles you overcame?
The biggest hurdles have been dealing with private insurance companies, negotiating contracts, gathering enough start up cash from investors (MRI machines are expensive!) and hiring the right staff...good help is truly hard to find!
